Where the name comes from
Second Attempt started on Eonar out of two Vanilla progression guilds, <Reign> and <Last Attempt>. That second name is not a coincidence — the podcast is named after it. The reborn guild pushed realm firsts through Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King and, by its own account, sat in the top world 70 for most of that era. Several of the names on its wall of realm firsts are ones anyone who raided then will recognise: Kil'jaeden, Obsidian Slayer, Conqueror of Naxxramas, Magic Seeker, and later Lei Shen and Ra-den.
Like most guilds that old, it has had more than one life. A chunk of the roster transferred to start over on a new realm; ex-officers regrouped in <Cynosure> late in Wrath and eventually came back to restore the Second Attempt tag on Sargeras, where it lives today.
What it is now
A Cutting Edge–focused twenty-man Mythic team that raids late: three nights a week, two hours a night, Tuesday through Thursday. That schedule is the guild's whole pitch — clear the current tier's Mythic while it's relevant without giving up your evenings. It is also, per the recruitment post, a guild that has historically fielded multiple raid teams and is open to absorbing a team that raids at a different time.
Outside progression it behaves like a community: alt runs, friends-and-family nights, transmog farms, PvP. The show's host raids and pushes keys here, which is why the Guildcast opens with how the week's raid nights went.
